Harriers in the hunt for strikers

By BBC Sport
Friday, 16th July 2010
Kidderminster Harriers assistant manager Gary Whild says finding a proven striker is now the main concern for him and manager Steve Burr.Whild says the management team have come close to resolving their hunt only to miss out at the 11th hour.

"It's difficult to tie that striker down as everybody's looking for them," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"But there are still three weeks to go and we're confident we can sort something out for the season's start."

Harriers thought they had done enough to secure the signature of the former Notts County striker Sean Canham but he opted instead for a move to League Two Hereford.

Meanwhile, Whild says the Harriers have had several potential signings in for pre-season training and some of them have staked a claim for a deal.

"We have looked at Christian Dennis from Macclesfield and we've had James McPike in, who has looked sharp," he said.

"He has got a pedigree in the game after being at Birmingham City and Hereford.

"So we're looking, but the lads here at the moment are working hard and doing their cause no harm," he added.

Harriers lost their first pre-season match at home to a strong West Bromwich Albion side, and were then beaten 3-2 at Solihull Moors.

Whild points out they played different teams in each half of those matches, but hinted the time for experimentation could be nearing an end as they prepare for the match at Nuneaton Town on Saturday.

"We have got to look at giving some of the lads a bit longer on the pitch so they can build up their match fitness," he said.
